Sir Gaga

Vogue Hommes Japan 2010

The new Men’s Vogue Japan has an interesting “model” on its double cover. Jo Calderone was shot by Nick Knight. And well by now everyone will have noticed that Nicola Formichetti, Lady Gaga’s stylist, is a creative hand over at Men’s Vogue Japan and Jo looks more like a Jill. Well there is not surprise to the Lady Gaga cross-dressing, but why?
Why is lady Gaga trading in her padded shoulders and studded panties for greased up t-shirts and a five o’clock shadow?

Britney Spears does Pop

Pop Fall 2010 via [fashionologie]

What do Pop, Britney Spears and Takashi Murakami have in common? The answer is the Fall 2010 multiple cover shoot featuring the pop princess in Japanese inspired anime attire. This ultra bubbly and sarcastically cartoony Britney is far from the Circus Britney of months before, and it actually works. The cover is very drastic and pulls elements from a dream world only Pop could conjure.

So it is my turn to ask, “Is Princess Spears supa kawai desu, or does she flop like a fish?”  You decide.

Finally, An Explanation to La Lohan's Ungaro Pasties

Emanuel Ungaro syled by Lindsay Lohan

Cathy Horyn writes a very interesting article on “The Fall of the House of Ungaro”, tracing the owner and designer lineage until its most recent stages. After reading the article it becomes ever more clear that Ungaro will never recover the sense of style and elite that it once had, but the future is still unfurling and only time will tell.  It seems that the only way to allow the House of Ungaro to flourish is to allow it to embark in new directions, meaning Asim Abdullah (the owner and focus of the article) needs to let go….

Some of Crystal Renn for Chanel

image via Chanel

Model extraordinaire Crytal Renn covers herself with some fur in this ad for Chanel’s Spring Street store. Renn has previously worked for Chanel appearing on the runway, but this appearance strikes me as a surprise. Lets just hope there is an embrace for varying body types in modeling, and not just an embrace for Crystal Renn’s body!
Baptiste on the other hand continues to "inspire" Karl, but is his bare chest an afterthought in the presence of Renn? You decide!

Down with the Kanye Clones!

Kanye West via luxist.com

Kanye West is at it again, this time he has initiated a provisioned Rosewood Movement where Kanye and his so called posy are dressing in dapper attire and conducting themselves to the highest gentlemen standards. While I see the good intention in the attitude adjustment, I HAVE to object to the dress code. Dressing “alike” goes against individuality, uniqueness and the interpretation of dressing. While Kanye may think that this movement is more than a fashion statement, I think it’s a blunder to the hip-hop and rap worlds of fashion, which have historically contributed to every level of street and runway attire.

Now it is my turn to ask, “Are matching Dior suits really necessary to make an adjustment to unfavorable traits found in an industry or individual?”
I DON’T THINK SO! Down with the Kanye clones!

A Man's Guide To Fall/Winter Dressing 2010

The Perfect Muse

The designer/muse relationship in fashion inspires legacies of different looks, styles, garments and semi-romances. The “muse” to a designer is, as Greek mythology narrates, a guiding spirit that inspires creation. David was to Michelangelo what Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford were to Gianni Versace. Using this formula I imagined some fun combinations of characters that should play muse to today’s designing stars, lets see….

Lady Gaga receiving a plaque to commemorate 51 million singles and 13 million albums sold. Congratulations GAGA!

The road to the Lady Gaga concert at the Los Angeles Staples center was anything less than an adventure. Bizarre Moments at Harper’s Bazaar

Rachel Zoe talks to Harper's Bazaar's Laura Brown

In more Harper’s Bazaar news, Rachel Zoe celebrity stylist and “fashion geek” was featured in an “I DIE” photo shoot portraying the many possible ways designers would kill her. Marc Jacobs electrifies her with a stand hairdryer, Vera Wang poisons her martini, while Michael Kors opts to burry her in designer bags. But does this depiction of death cross the line? Lets find out….

4 CHEERS to Leigh Bowery for his devotion to…AVANT GARDE!!!

"I believe that fashion (where all the girls have clear skins, blue eyes, blond blow-waved hair and a size zero figure and where all the men have clear skin, moustaches, short blow-waved hair and masculine physique and appearance) STINKS. I think that firstly individuality is important, and that there should be no main rules for behavior and appearance. Therefore I want to look as best as I can, through my means of individuality and expressiveness. I think that the clothes I am interested in are strictly the opposite to what's in mass taste, and that there is a minority that like the same style as me."

A Darker View of Couture (FALL/2010)

The Star Wars saga introduced the world to the supreme commander Darth Vader, decked in a black space suit, cape and breathing mask. Darth Vader’s image alone emulates the evil oppressor that he was, but in the fashion world I think he would have fared a lot better. So watch out Lady Gaga and Karl Lagerfeld, we may have a new fashion icon on our hands!

Kinky Boots…a sexy shoe affair!

picture via BerlinRomExpress

With a fantastic cast, fabulous plot and one very entertaining Drag Queen (Lola), Kinky Boots (2005) was the perfect way to indulge in a fashionable love story about being brave, taking risks and opening our minds and hearts to the unknown.
Not only does Kinky Boots give an insightful look into the production of every woman’s, and mans, love affair with shoes but it also procures a wonderful story about the places we dare not step foot in; whether its sexy shoes, relationships or cultural experiences. Kinky Boots further explores the social and personal experiences of being a transgendered person, Lola loudly and with a flare of sass demands R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
So pick up your sexiest most daring pair of boots and enjoy!

Here are some of my favorite quotes form the fierce Lola, played by actor Chiwetel Ejiofor:

Look to the heel, young man. The sex is in the heel.”

“Ladies, gentlemen and those who are yet to make up your mind.”

“There's a little... chill in the air... isn't there?”
